We envision a community where...
...local food is easy to access
The Liberty Lake Farmers Market makes it possible for community members to access local food sources. The Market provides good, fresh, and nutritious foods within a walkable or bikeable distance from peoples homes. As the Market becomes an established Liberty Lake tradition it moves shopping at farmers markets from niche to mainstream and makes access to fresh local food possible for more Liberty Lake residents and visitors. Because good food is what many traditions and memories are made of, we encourage consumers to learn more about their food through direct communication with farmers and producers. We believe that everyone deserves to have good food, and we participate in state and local food assistance programs that supplement the food budgets of people with low incomes, and increase access to local foods for home bound seniors.
...people know their neighbors
The Market is about more than just consumption. The Market is a wholesome gathering place that helps to create and enhance the culture of Liberty Lake. In 2001 the Market was founded by local community members that were concerned about the health and vitality of current and future Liberty Lake residents. The location of the Market was chosen with the goal of being highly accessible to people by foot or bike traffic, yet still close to the city core. The Market contributes to a healthy and active lifestyle for its customers and provides a wholesome gathering place for the community.
...farmers and artisans are supported
The Liberty Lake Farmers Market makes small agriculture and food related businesses viable in our area. The Market creates an economic possibility for farming and artisan food preparation and acts as a business incubator for these types of businesses. We cultivate local talent by allowing local people the opportunity to sell their products in their own community. We believe there is benefit in spending money and time within ones own community rather than exporting value to the outside.
